Pelosi is Right

Yeah, I hate to say it, but there is at least one thing on which I agree with Nancy Pelosi. Sometimes there are things more important than keeping your job. Sometimes you have to act based on principle, even when it puts in jeopardy certain comforts & privileges to which you have become accustomed.

On today’s edition of ABC’s “This Week”, Speaker Pelosi urged her fellow-Democrats to vote for Obamacare, no matter what. “We’re not here just to self-perpetuate our service in Congress,” she said. “We’re here to do the job for the American people.” (Has she really listened to the people, lately?) This statement seems to acknowledge the idea that several House Democrats who are up for re-election this year are in danger of losing, if they support the current health care legislation. It also means Pelosi is well aware that she may not have the votes she needs, yet. She’s scrambling.

Will those moderates who are at risk listen to their leader? Ironically, for the sake of the country, I hope they selfishly choose to ignore her.

    Easy for her to say, she is safely reelectable in uber Liberal San Francisco. I dare say she wouldn’t be so frisky if she lived in West Virginia or Alabama.

    Now Reid, the sad pathetic sap, is pretty brave. He is going to lose, it is a done deal, but he apparently is willing to take one for the team.

    I have to admit, I have never seen a party so readily want to face political suicide by spitting in the American people’s face with such contempt.

      You’re right, of course. Pelosi’s future does seem to be pretty safe, for now. I wonder how she would act/vote if she was one of those at-risk moderates. As for Reid, I guess he’s seen the writing on the wall and figures he has little to lose. He’ll still get a book deal and lucrative speaking engagements once he’s retired from the Senate.

    If Pelosi really cared about doing the job for the American people she would probably listen th what we are saying, but she is ignoring the will of the people by pushing this bill and she is willing to sacrifice the jobs of her fellow Democrats in order to pass it.
    I do not believe that she has the votes and this is the desperate pleas of a “leader” trying to find people to follow her.

    Are there actually thinking people out there that think this bill (aka fiasco) has anything (and by anything, I mean anything) to do with health care? It is pure ideological transformation of this country–period! That is why this administration is willing to lose the Presidency, the control of Congress, stomp on the will of the populace, scheme, lie, bribe, etc., to get it passed. Does anybody actually think they are that concerned about the people who don’t have health care? Remember these are the same people who won’t even approve school vouchers for residents of Washington, DC.
