“I will not rest until the American people have the honest vote count they deserve and that democracy demands.” — President Donald Trump
President Trump refuses to concede the election, and I don’t blame him!
Some are calling for Trump to just “let it go” in the name of peace and unity, etc. For those for whom this is genuine, I understand why but disagree. Others (i.e., Lefties and Never-Trumpers), probably have much more selfish, even nefarious, reasons. Of course, many accuse Trump of just being afraid to admit he lost, and that may indeed be a large part of his motivation. But, the issue is much bigger than that.
Regardless of whether or not Trump’s main reason is due to his own ego, I think he should hold out conceding the election for now and that the lawsuits and investigations should move forward. Why? For one thing, just because the Associated Press (or anyone else) has “called” the election for Biden doesn’t make it official. But, Biden has way more than enough electoral votes, you say. Those votes, however, won’t actually be cast for another month, and things could change.
And that’s the second reason. There has been more than enough suspicious behavior in and around the voting booth this election — an election where the ballot numbers are very close in many areas, including swing states — to warrant official investigation into possible voter fraud of various types. Also, anyone who is paying attention has to see that such shenanigans almost always work to the benefit of the political left. Is it any wonder that they don’t want these things looked into?
So, I want the litigation from Trump and others to be taken seriously. Sure, not all of the claims and allegations will turn out to be valid, thanks to factors ranging from a simple typo to incorrect assumptions made by the initial accusers and/or plaintiff(s). But, others are quite serious and should definitely be pursued. For example, one case that I think fits the bill is U.S. Postal Service workers in Pennsylvania illegally postmarking ballots “Nov. 3” after they arrived at the post office day(s) later, as uncovered by Project Veritas. (Pennsylvania has other issues, as well.) Another example is the supposedly glitchy or un-updated software used in Michigan’s Antrim County (and many other places), such that thousands of Republican votes were transformed into Democrat votes. IMO, despite declarations of innocence by the MI Secretary of State, there still seem to be a lot of suspicious coincidences.
Voter fraud and malpractice must not be ignored and swept under the rug. Any and all actual instances should be rooted out and the perpetrators punished to the fullest extent of the law. All legal votes should be counted, and corrections should be made in the voter tallies wherever possible. This should be done whether or not Trump ends up with 270+ electoral votes. Anyone who loves this country, regardless of political party, should be appalled at any attempt to interfere with and subvert our elections. If we can’t trust our election process, our nation is in YUGE trouble!
Of course, such investigations are difficult and expensive. Plus, courts are “usually very reluctant to overturn election results even with substantial evidence of possible problems that raise questions about the legitimacy of the outcome.” (Remember Bush v. Gore in 2000?)
As Heritage’s Hans von Spakovsky summed up,
“Hopefully, this litigation will be a reminder that clear election rules established by state legislatures well before an election can avoid delays and problems after an election. The same is true if election officials comply with the law instead of defying it.”
