Meanwhile, Elsewhere in the Conservative Blogosphere…

What do Benny Hinn, the Big Bang, and Joe Biden’s gun-grab have in common?

Nothing, as far as I can tell, other than the prominence of the letter “B” and the fact that all three show up in this blogpost. Stick with me…

Despite having gotten a good-sized post published on time last Sunday, the past week has had me, like a lot of folks, rather preoccupied with Hurricane Dorian. My family (and the house) escaped unscathed, but it was a stressful few days here in Florida. So, I am only now getting my mind back in the usual groove, including figuring out what to blog about next.

I took a look at what a few other conservative bloggers have posted lately, and I picked three posts to briefly quote and link to which I thought my readers might appreciate….

First up is Samuel Sey at the “Slow to Write” blog, who introduced his readers to a new book by Costi Hinn, Benny Hinn’s nephew who rejected his uncle’s “prosperity gospel”. (Note: Both the book and the blogpost came out before the elder Hinn’s recent declaration that he was abandoning his prosperity message.)

God, Greed, and the (Prosperity) Gospel

“The prosperity gospel impoverishes the people it promises to prosper. It kills the people it promises to heal. The prosperity gospel is not the gospel — though millions of vulnerable people across the world believe it is. But for many of us, the prosperity gospel isn’t relevant anymore. We don’t seem nearly as concerned about it like we used to be….

If we believe we do not have accurate data on Benny Hinn, then we cannot believe we have accurate data on the prosperity gospel. Benny Hinn is an apostle of the prosperity gospel. He is one of the false prophets of the false gospel, and no one knows that better than his nephew, Costi Hinn.”

Next, my Facebook friend and fellow-IT guy, Luke Nix, wrote this interesting post that poses a challenge for Christian proponents of Young Earth Creationism:

Evidence For The Empty Tomb of Jesus and Big Bang Cosmology

“The concept of ‘enemy attestation’ is an important concept that is often used when arguing for the empty tomb of Jesus Christ. The importance comes from the general recognition that if an enemy (here, ‘enemy’ just means someone who is philosophically committed against a view) affirms the truth of a claim, especially if that claim’s being true is damaging to their counter-claim, it is likely true. Usually, in such a case, the evidence is so strong for the claim that the enemy would publically [sic] risk intellectual integrity if they were to continue with their rejection. They ‘bite the bullet,’ so to say, accept the evidence, and search for some way to make the evidence compatible with their view….

Unfortunately, some Christians deny big bang cosmology and deny that the enemy attestation of it supports its truth. If we believe that this is not a supporting piece of evidence for the truth of big bang cosmology, then we logically must also reject enemy attestation as a supporting piece of evidence for the empty tomb of Jesus Christ. Both rejections come at a price for the Christian: their reasonable witness (1 Peter 3:15) to God as Creator (Genesis 1:1) and Jesus as Savior (1 Cor 15) are weakened.”

Finally, the inimitable Wintery Knight (who, iirc, is also an “IT guy”) took a look at recent remarks by Joe Biden (and Beto O’Rourke) on his plans for gun control if he is elected POTUS in 2020:

“No compromise”

Joe Biden Promises to Confiscate All Multi-round Magazines, Disarm Church-goers

“In the wake of mass shootings by people who don’t obey the law, Democrat presidential candidates are vowing to confiscate ALL semi-automatic pistols and rifles, as well as ban magazines with more than one bullet. They believe that by taking weapons from law-abiding Americans, they will be able to stop violence committed by those who don’t care about laws. Will that work? …”

[After quoting the Daily Wire‘s summary of Biden’s plans, WK sarcastically notes:]

“We’ve actually had a number of mass shootings where left-wing atheists attacked Christians during worship. I guess Joe Biden has an alternative plan for protecting Christians from far-left atheist Democrats. Maybe he plans to show up at the mass shootings in churches, and have a talk with the shooters about following gun laws.”

As usual, WK points to helpful resources about the history and realities of gun control.

Well, there you have it. I hope at least one of those has piqued your interest enough to read the linked blog(s) and give the author(s) some much-deserved views.

‘Til next week…
