Cops, Conservatives, and Christian Apologists

This is a slightly belated Thanksgiving post, but… it’s still the Thanksgiving Weekend, right?

This year, I would like to take note of three things I am truly thankful for. Well, I guess I should say they are classes or categories of things.

First, I want to acknowledge the U.S. military, intelligence services, and law enforcement communities. For all that they do to keep us, our homes, streets, and property safe from criminals of all types, terrorists, and tyrants, we are forever grateful. They sometimes get a bad rap, and yes, there are instances of corruption, etc. But, I believe that the vast majority of people serving in these arenas are trying to do so with honor and integrity. This would be a much more dangerous and unjust world without them.

Next, I am immensely appreciative of organizations like Heritage Foundation and PragerU (to name only two) who are on the cultural and socio-political frontlines, fighting for conservative principles and “traditional American values”. They consist collectively of a relatively small but smart and passionate group of people who love America and are doing their best to counter the various anti-American, anti-freedom, anti-life messages being propagated in the public square.

Last but not least, I thank God for Christian organizations such as Stand to Reason, Alpha & Omega Ministries, and Reasons to Believe. While there is some overlap with the second category above, these brothers & sisters in Christ have a distinctly Christian purpose and witness in their messaging. They tackle everything from Scripture, theology, science, and apologetics to socio-political and cultural issues from a biblical, Christian perspective. (And they don’t always totally agree, which is fine. “As iron sharpens iron…” (Prov 27:17)) I continue to learn so much from them all.

May God continue to work out His sovereign will in the world and this nation, and may he bless these organizations as they do their level best to counter poorly-informed and/or uncritical thinking and to fight the forces of evil.

Happy Thanksgiving!
